Description: The Kanzan or Kwanzan cherry tree is a Japanese flowering cherry cultivar that has double flowered, many petaled blooms. It is considered one of the most ornamental flowering cherry trees. This is one of the cherry varieties that was gifted to Washington, DC by the people of Japan in 1912. While the Yoshino cherry was planted around the Tidal Basin, this cherry was planted in the East Potomac Park area.
