Bloom Time (northern hemisphere):
September to December; peaks from October to November
Bloom characteristics:
Erect to nodding inflorescence is up to 10" (25 cm) long with 5-20 short-lived, purple flowers (as many as 47 have been recorded). Flowers are 3" (7.5 cm) across and last for about 3 weeks.
Foliage characteristics:
Has two, sometimes three leaves per a pseudobulb.
Description:
This medium to large sized orchid is considered a resilient and easy-to-grow orchid in cultivation. Known for its fall blooming time, this orchid almost received the species name “autumnalis” when it was first written up.
