Distribution: Himalaya to China (Yunnan) and Indo-China
Habitat: Open forests on tree trunks; 300-900m
Life form: Epiphytic
Foliage characteristics: Leaves turn purple in the dry season and last 2 years.
Bloom characteristics: Pendulous inflorescence is 4-12" long with 5-15 orange flowers. Flowers are 3.5" across and last about a week.
Fragrance: Musky, rhubarb, sweet woodruff
Medicinal/pharmaceutical: Juice from the leaves of this orchid are used in the Indian state of Meghalaya as drops for earaches. In Nepal, paste from the stems is used to treat fractured and dislocated bones.
Description: This large orchid has flowers with a fuzzy lip, pink edged petals, and a unique smell.
